Health and Social Care Curriculum

Health and Social Care is offered as an option subject in Years 9, 10 and 11.

We deliver the Cambridge National Level 1/2 Certificate in Health and Social Care qualification which is a vocationally-related course that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment.

There are four units of study, each of which is studied for around 30 hours:

Unit R021: Essential values of care for use with individuals in care settings.

This unit focuses on the rights of individuals and will instil the values of care to be used when working in a care setting. The unit also covers legislation, hygiene, safety and security matters that relate to care settings.

Unit R022: Communicating and working with individuals in health, social care and early years settings.

This unit will provide learners with an understanding of how to communicate effectively and what personal qualities will be needed when working in a care setting.

Unit R023: Understanding body systems and disorders.

This unit will provide learners with a relevant knowledge and understanding of three major body systems: respiratory, digestive and cardiovascular.

Unit R028: Understanding the development and protection of young children in an early years setting.

This unit provides learners with an understanding of the physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social development of 0–5 year olds in an early years setting. It will also cover the importance of promoting a safe environment when working with children and the areas of risk that can endanger children’s lives in an early years setting.
